What it is

This is a permit that allows foreign nationals to reside in Portugal indefinitely, after meeting the legal requirements.

How to obtain it

The application for permanent residence authorisation is made by appointment, submitted by the applicant or their lawyer/solicitor. The following documents are required:

• Valid passport and visa
• Proof of means of subsistence
• Proof of accommodation
• Registration with the Tax Authority and Social Security
• Holding a temporary residence permit for at least 5 years
• Proof of basic Portuguese language knowledge
• Other required documents based on the type of application
